Public vs. Private Instagram Stories: What Viewers Can Access

A clear explanation of which Instagram Stories can be viewed without a login and which remain restricted.

Whether a Story can be returned depends mainly on the account’s privacy setting and the audience selected by its owner.

Public account Stories

Currently active Stories from public accounts may be available through the anonymous Story Viewer. Availability is not guaranteed because Stories can expire or be deleted at any time.

Private account Stories

Private Stories are limited to approved followers. InstaZoomer does not bypass private profiles, authentication controls or follower approval.

Close Friends and restricted audiences

Close Friends Stories are intentionally limited to a selected audience and are not available through the public viewer. The same principle applies to content the owner has hidden or removed.
